Born in Keighley, West Yorkshire, Sue began playing the cornet at 10 years old with the Yeadon Old Brass Band. At 14 she joined Bradford Victoria Band on flugel. In 1987 she moved to Nottingham, and in between playing with Brass Bands, trained as a Nurse.

In 1995 Sue left Nottingham City Transport where she had spent several years and joined Bestwood Band where she spent 2 years on the front row. April 1997 saw Sue move to Ransome Band, where she has become a valued member of the back row as well as the band’s treasurer.
