Joanne Riseley was born in Northampton in 1973, and began playing the cornet at the age of 5 in the Salvation Army. At 9 years old she was offered a trombone and hasn’t looked back since. In 1984 she joined the Northamptonshire Youth Band under the baton of John Berryman, and spent eight years playing all around the country as well as tours to France, Belgium, Austria and Germany.
In 1992 Joanne moved to Yorkshire where she studied Music at Barnsley College. It was at this time she joined Nottingham City Transport for a short period before moving to Ransome Band in 1995. She was in the band when they toured Japan and America, and recently when the band have played in Germany and France. The highlight of Joanne’s time with the band has to be when the band came 2 nd at the National Finals playing Harrison’s Dream, and becoming English Champions.
Joanne is the bands in house arranger and many of her works are featured on the bands cd’s.
In February 2006, Joanne married the bands soprano player, David Bird. They live in Nottingham, where Joanne teaches brass and woodwind in primary schools around the County.
